Start with text you mostly understand
Try an introduction, a short story, or a note you wrote yourself. When the meaning is reasonably familiar, you can pay attention to how phrases are spoken rather than trying to guess every idea while the audio continues. Short material gives you space to pause.
Import a PDF or TXT into FolioTone, or paste Vietnamese into a text document. Choose enough context to make the passage meaningful without making it unnecessarily long. Keep the original source available so you can compare it with extracted text or OCR when needed.
Review the words before generating speech
Vietnamese diacritics, punctuation, and line breaks can affect the reading. For scanned PDFs, check characters that OCR may confuse. If an important name or abbreviation occurs repeatedly, review its presentation in the copy you intend to hear before preparing the full passage.
Choose a Vietnamese voice and generate a short first part. Gentle and Warm are free voices without a daily character quota. Listen before settling on the one you find comfortable; that preference is personal, rather than a ranking of which voice suits every learner.
Follow meaning as well as sound
For the first pass, read the passage on screen and follow its main ideas. Pause to examine a sentence or note a word to investigate later. You do not need to turn every session into dictation or force yourself through material that feels too difficult.
On another pass, try listening to completed audio without looking continuously at the page. Return to the text whenever something is unclear. FolioTone synthesizes speech from words; it does not score pronunciation or replace a teacher, tutor, or a source's original recorded audio.
Keep other sources in the picture
Synthetic speech is convenient for material you choose, but dialogue, emotion, and names may sound different from a human performance. Use it alongside other Vietnamese sources you trust. A single generated voice should not stand in for every speaker, region, or situation.
Build a small collection of passages and include a topic or date in document names if useful. Increase their length only when you want to. The session's purpose is to make the material approachable, rather than to maximize the number of minutes you have played.
