Match the material to the journey

A short essay or a clearly structured chapter is often easier to follow than a document full of numerical tables. Plan around the time you really have, including moments when you need to change trains, check an announcement, or speak with another passenger.

If you walk or travel through traffic, awareness of your surroundings comes before finishing the passage. Set up your listening while stationary in an appropriate place. Do not select pages, edit text, or export files while driving; leave those tasks for another time.

Bring the source onto your device

A document listed in Files may still need downloading from its storage provider. If your PDF is on a cloud service, download and import it into FolioTone while connected. Open a few pages afterward to confirm that you have the right book.

FolioTone extracts text and generates speech on device, but retrieving a source file from an external provider may require internet access. Keeping these two steps separate helps prevent a last-minute surprise when the book you intended to hear is still online.

Generate audio before you leave

Choose a voice matching the passage's language, prepare the portion you need, and keep the app in the foreground until generation finishes. Allow time to review OCR for scanned pages. Recognition errors in names or line breaks are easier to address before travelling.

Play a completed part and check the volume through the audio device you plan to use. Prepared audio can play with the screen locked. Avoid relying on the app to keep generating new speech after it has moved into the background on iOS.

Let the journey set the pace

Pause when you need to change vehicles, talk to someone, or pay attention to the route. Several interruptions do not make the session unsuccessful. Short audio parts make it easier to return to the idea you were hearing without searching through a long recording. If you miss an announcement or a stop, put the book aside until your route is clear again.

After travelling, note a convenient place to continue. If you want to use the prepared audio in another app, FolioTone supports WAV and M4A exports within the limits displayed in the app. Share only material you have permission to use.
