Download the book before connectivity disappears
Open Files and confirm that your documents are actually on the device, especially when they originate in iCloud or another storage service. Import the PDFs and TXT files you need into FolioTone. Seeing a filename in a list is not enough to establish that the document is ready offline.
Choose material for the real trip. A chapter you are halfway through or a document you want to revisit is more useful than many unfamiliar titles with no clear starting point. Keep the source somewhere recognizable so you can compare it if extraction produces words you did not expect.
Test a passage that represents the book
Inspect Text where it includes names, longer sentences, and punctuation. For scans, recognize the page with OCR and review it first. If the document has columns or notes, sample a typical content page rather than an attractive opener containing almost no text to test.
Select the matching language voice: Vietnamese or Clear English. Listen to a short passage before preparing a longer recording. This simple decision avoids generating a whole chapter again because you only notice the wrong language choice after the full preparation job has already finished on your device.
Generate while you can keep the app open
Prepare the audio before leaving, with enough battery, storage, and time to leave FolioTone in the foreground. Local speech generation is still a hardware task. Not needing an internet connection for inference does not mean a substantial book section can be processed instantly or without using device resources.
When preparation finishes, play the result and lock the screen to confirm that you are hearing completed material. If you want a separate file, export WAV/M4A within the displayed limits and open the export. Check both ends so an accidentally selected content range does not surprise you during the trip.
Test offline in the literal sense
A trial without connectivity confirms that the books and audio you need are stored on the device. Make or restore a Pro purchase before losing connectivity if you need those entitlements. App downloads, purchases, restores, and retrieval of cloud-only documents still require an internet connection.
Free offers no daily character quota for Gentle, Warm, and Clear English, while batch preparation and exports have separate limits. Plan around the current limits and your actual listening needs. A manageable preparation session lets the trip begin with your book instead of a last-minute struggle with files.
