Offline starts before the reading session

Put the PDFs you want into Files and import them into FolioTone. For documents from iCloud or another storage provider, wait until the download finishes before testing without connectivity. A filename visible in a file picker does not necessarily mean the entire book is on your iPad.

Choose a clear text page and try extraction followed by speech generation. FolioTone handles OCR and text to speech on the device, without sign-in or a document upload. You still need connectivity to download the app and to make or restore App Store purchases.

Give the wide screen a specific job

Read the PDF when illustrations, tables, and the original layout matter. Before listening, inspect Text to check the sequence of sentences. This is especially useful for footnotes and multiple columns, where extraction order may differ from the order your eyes follow across a page.

Begin at a meaningful point: the page start for a new section, or a selected passage when changing from reading to listening. There is little reason to prepare an entire book merely to audition a voice. One ordinary page is enough for a useful first trial.

Choose the language before the listening rhythm

Use a Vietnamese voice for Vietnamese writing and Clear English for English passages. FolioTone should not be treated as an automatic language-switching narrator for every bilingual sentence. For heavily mixed documents, separate the passages you need and select an appropriate voice for each listening job.

Prepare a long session before leaving the screen. Generation requires the app in the foreground; completed audio can continue with the device locked. Understanding these two stages makes it easier to plan a reliable session instead of expecting unfinished speech generation to continue in the background.

Keep the library comfortable for your device

PDFs, recognized text, and generated audio all consume local storage. Preparing the chapters you will actually hear is easier to manage than keeping several exports of every book. Check free storage when a large job does not finish as expected, and retain copies of source documents separately.

Gentle, Warm, and Clear English have no daily character quota on Free. Other limits appear at the relevant action in the app. Choose Pro when removing those limits suits your routine, rather than expecting a purchase to make the same device generate speech faster.

TRY IT WITH YOUR OWN WORDS

FolioTone works on iPhone and iPad with iOS 18 or later. Voice, OCR and export limits depend on your Free or Pro plan; check the app for current limits.
