Speech begins with the extracted words
When you import a PDF into FolioTone, the app uses its text to generate synthetic speech on device. A scanned page may first need OCR. The quality of that text is therefore part of the listening result, alongside the voice you choose for it.
A PDF can contain repeated headings, page numbers, columns, and captions. Elements that look sensible on paper may interrupt a sequential reading. Reviewing the extracted text helps explain an unexpected spoken heading or an order that differs from the way you naturally scan the page.
A recording may include performance choices
A recorded audiobook may involve a narrator and editing choices about pacing, pauses, or character expression. Not every recording follows the same process or quality standard. However, those performance choices differ from generating speech from words you have imported into an application.
FolioTone does not promise to reproduce an author's voice or replace a particular narrator's performance. Choosing a Vietnamese voice or Clear English selects an available synthetic reading voice. Names, dialogue, and emotional passages may sound different from your expectation even when the source text is accurate.
Your own source is the useful distinction
TTS lets you prepare audio from your own notes, drafts, or reading material you have permission to use. You decide which passages need speech and can adjust the listening copy. A separately published recording does not need to exist for that particular document or passage.
In exchange, preparation and review take some time. Keep the app in the foreground during generation; completed audio can play with the screen locked. Importing a book should not be treated as immediately receiving a fully produced recording of its entire contents without further preparation.
Choose around the task in front of you
If you want the expressive interpretation of a particular recording, seek that edition through an appropriate source. If you need to hear an unrecorded document or revisit a sentence you are writing, PDF/TXT reading and TTS serve a different and practical purpose.
Whichever method you choose, consider permission before sharing material. FolioTone supports WAV and M4A export within the displayed limits, but the ability to create an audio file does not itself grant distribution rights to a book. Keep the source and intended use clear when building a personal audio collection.
