Separate the source from the processing
Files can show PDFs stored in iCloud Drive or another provider. A listed document may need an internet connection before it can be imported. Retrieving that file is a storage-provider operation, separate from FolioTone extracting text or generating audio after the content is available locally.
When considering a private reading workflow, ask two questions: where does the document come from, and where are its words processed? An offline reader cannot change whether a source file was previously synchronized, shared, or kept by a service outside the app.
What happens on your device
FolioTone does not require an account or sign-in for reading and listening. Text extraction, OCR, and speech generation take place on iPhone or iPad without uploading book content to an inference server. Documents and generated audio are managed locally within the application.
That does not make every related action independent of the internet. Installing the app, purchasing or restoring Pro, and retrieving cloud-hosted sources may need connectivity. For offline listening, import your document and prepare audio beforehand, then open the part you intend to use.
An export creates another copy
Exporting WAV or M4A produces a file you can save to Files or send to another application. The destination determines whether it stays local or is synchronized through an external service. Choose that destination deliberately, particularly for personal material and documents connected with work.
Sending a screenshot or passage to support is another separate sharing action. Remove unnecessary information and avoid sending a whole book when a small example demonstrates the problem. Local processing does not replace thoughtful choices about the material you intentionally share outside the app.
Manage copies according to your needs
Before deleting a document, consider where its original and exported copies remain. Removing an item in the app should not be understood as deleting every copy previously sent elsewhere. If you use device backups, check the relevant provider's guidance and your actual backup settings.
FolioTone's website privacy policy explains the respective scope of app, support, and website data handling. When asking about a particular copy, identify whether it is inside the app, in Files, or with another service. The right next step depends on where that copy is held. Include the storage location when describing the issue.
