Separate generation time from playback time
During speech generation, the device is turning written content into audio data. During playback of a prepared recording, it is mainly reading audio that already exists. A music file starting immediately therefore says little about how long a newly generated chapter should take to become available for listening.
There is no single speed figure for every iPhone or iPad. Document length and structure, the selected voice, device conditions, and the material being prepared can all affect the wait. Use the same short passage and voice if you want to compare two attempts on your own device meaningfully.
Give the preparation task room to finish
Keep FolioTone in the foreground while it creates speech. Switching applications or locking the screen too soon can prevent preparation from proceeding as expected. The ability to hear completed audio with the display off does not mean the app can continue producing new recordings indefinitely in the background.
Check available storage before a large task and avoid preparing everything immediately before departure. If the device is already hot after recording video, gaming, or another demanding activity, let it return to ordinary conditions before judging generation speed. You do not need an unsupported “speed boost” trick to make that comparison fair.
Avoid generating work you will immediately redo
Try a short sample before selecting a voice for the whole document. Correcting a broken line or a troublesome name early avoids repeating multiple sections later. Clear source editing reduces unnecessary attempts, even though it cannot promise a fixed preparation speed across different passages, models, or device conditions.
Prepare an intended listening session rather than your entire library at once. For a long book, a manageable set of pages or enough material for today is usually easier to review. Watch the parts that have actually completed instead of assuming that every page must be ready before you can plan your next session.
Evaluate Pro by its limits, not an assumed speed gain
Pro removes the corresponding Free limits for voices and tasks such as batch preparation and exports. The two editions do not use separate engines with different generation speeds. A purchase may fit a heavier workflow, but it should not be interpreted as a promise of faster speech preparation on the same hardware.
If a short passage repeatedly fails to finish, record the device model, iOS version, app version, and voice for a support report. That is different from a lengthy document that simply needs processing time. Distinguishing the situations helps you choose a useful check rather than waiting indefinitely without evidence of progress.
TRY IT WITH YOUR OWN WORDS

FolioTone works on iPhone and iPad with iOS 18 or later. Voice, OCR and export limits depend on your Free or Pro plan; check the app for current limits.
